So after switching to Firefox 3 beta, I found that a lot of my extensions no longer worked, which I expected. What I didn't expect was how much I'd miss the invisible extensions. These are the extensions that don't require any configuration, don't have to be triggered by any buttons, don't show up in the interface; they just work.

I could get used to losing "Colorful Tabs", and have my tab bar be a dull monochromatic gray. It was losing Tabs Open Relative (and Submit to Tab) that I've found really irritating, because there are no visual indicators that they no longer work. I only find out/remember when I try to open a new tab, and find myself at the end of the tab bar, not beside my current tab. Just a few minutes ago, I restarted Firefox (because I keep forgetting that the RTE pop-up windows won't work with Firefox 3 and I can't close that pop-up otherwise), clicked on a link... and it opened beside my current tab.

I feel so incredibly happy! This is almost better than if the Web Developer toolbar had been updated -- almost.

The thing that I got irritated with in the FF3 beta was most of my extensions wouldn't work because "This extension could not be installed because it does not provide secure updates". Such as my LJ Support toolbar. Even though I've set the toolbar to work with FF3, it wouldn't install it. But after disabling the security check all was well and it installed and worked fine, as did my other extensions. Apparently in FF3 all extensions need to be updated via https. Grr.

Oh, I remember seeing something about increased security for installation; I didn't realize that was what they had done, though.

You know which one I miss most? The one that puts the Page Style menu in the contextual menu. *facepalm* Losing Paste and Go was annoying, too, though that's better since I managed to make Fx3 the default browser.

Mm, true. Though Page Style is at least not that deep in the View menu. I don't know what Paste and Go is, though. What does it do?

It's similar to what already exists in Opera. Instead of, say, pasting an URL in your address bar and then clicking on the green arrow, you choose Paste and go, and you don't need to click the green arrow. Lazy people ftw! :D

The extension's here, if you want more info :)

Ooh interesting. I usually paste and hit enter. But I can see how it would be annoying to have that, and then have to go without *g*

Seriously, it's the tiny things that are the hardest to adjust to.

Plus yung memory leak thing is mostly fixed. compare mo open the same number tabs in firefox 2 vs. firefox 3.
personally, i hate having to switch back because some add-ons don't work.
Now I'm trying opera and maxthon (which is IE 6 w/ tabs).
:) Also use firebug. for css/javascript stuff.

Haha, I didn't know you could actually open new tabs beside your current one. You use an extension for this? Haha, sorry, non-Firefox-savvy user. :p

Get the extension nightly tester tools.

Once its in there, go to addons, and a new button will be there 'make compatible'

Not all extensions will work (deepest sender, for example, broke badly) but it means your adblock etc will keep on doing.

Thanks! I have the Nightly Tester Tools enabled, and all my 'base' extensions seem to be working fine :-) (Some of the more complicated ones don't, but the simple things are good!)
