At a temple in Nara. The expressions and details on the bronze demons guarding the gate are absolutely amazing.

Mmm, temple springs. Cold and sweet.

Hm. Stayed in deer park a while (though I can't quite call it deer park in my mind. Already means something else)
,
There is too much time while sitting on a bus to think.

Ahahaha I just bought the slamdunk boxset. I actually just meant to buy a couple of the volumes at the end to fill out my deluxe version collection, but then I unwittingly stumbled upon the boxset corner, saw a plastic-wrapped collection of all 31 regular volumes, and my control deserted me. SD is my One True Manga. There has never been one like that for me before, and there may never yet again, but see that is perfectly all right.

THE BOXSET REACHES MY KNEE.

Need to convert money the next time we have the chance, though, and need to stop buying things for myself.

I honestly had no intention to buy any manga before we left the Philippines. And now I have, ummm, 37 (i was filling out holes in my eyeshield collection as well; I think that I have conpleted that up to the latest, unless 28 is not the latest tankoubon).

Hm. Gold-plated temples are not my thing, but the garden is really pretty.

There are many places where you can make wishes. I am not entirely certain what I want to wish for.

Wow, the bullet train is pretty amazing. We were still walking down the length of the train when it started moving, and it was smooth. Not one jostle or bump; did not feel myself lose balance at all. It's like a roomier, slightly noisier, version of an airplane. It is going to take us less than half the time to from kyoto to nagoya than it would have taken us if we'd gone on the luggage-laden bus.

The problem with 100 yen is that it is a coin, so it does not seem worth much. Even 500 yen feels disposable, and it really is not ahaha.

Hahhaha. Sa bagay. But I think they all use, like, trains or something. Or bikes. I just realized ,there isn't that much traffic. Or maybe I slept through it or we don't go out during rushhour?

Is it true that the common perception of 100 yen is the same way we view 1 PhP here in the Phillipines? The tens and ones being relative "centavos" of the Yen currency?

Hmm. No, not 1 peso. It's closer to one dollar? I mean I think of it as lik... 50 pesos. The value, for the most part, is about the same.

From: [identity profile] habeo.livejournal.com
Ahaha, of course we'd treat it significantly more, but since you say they treat it like they would 1 dollar, i.e. What Americans think of $1.00 is what the Japanese think of 100 Yen (as opposed to Americans thinking of $100 when the Japanese think of 100 Yen comparison), I think I got my answer. :P

I asked my parents before - how can the Japanese economy be so high when our lowly Philippine Peso is worth more than one Japanese Yen? If they think of 1 Yen as we think of 0.01 PhP, then yes, the Japanese economy is indeed high. XD

lol, the secret is to talk really really fast and mumble all your vocabulary without any coherent grammar.
Also, remind those japanese that your nihongo sucks less than their english. :P
we should meet up when you go to the tokyo area-ish. :D
I think we'll be staying in the same hotel in narita.

Hhahaha. Awesome, I should try that. Mostly, right now what I do is talk softly and somewhat slowly, so of course they start paying even more attention.

And yes you should :DD

Also, sometimes it feels the other way around, but then mostly have been talking to customer service people in touristy spots so I guess that they're used to some english.

I won't be staying in narita the last night though D: meeting a friend! Then riding the express :DD

Hee hee hee, same thing happened to me when [livejournal.com profile] scaryjeff and a couple of our mates went over; I became the translator by default and the whole time I felt like I was straining my ears.

I mean, seriously. Many conversations were spent with me asking questions and then squinting (as if this will improve my language comprehension) while my victim gave their response. I'd then thank them and turn to my friends afterwards and say "I heard "esukareta" and "ue"! She said go up! I think!"

It's so very, very tiring; but at least it *really* helps your language improve. :)

My reading has vastly improved. My speaking... not so much *G*

Also, ahhaha. Sounds like my conversations! (Except mostly my mind tunes in to the endings of the words/sentences. So I have no idea what tha verb just was, but I do know that it was polite!)

SD is my One True Manga.

::huge grin::

In my case, substitute Shadow Skill for Slam Dunk! BUT! I could never, ever desert my dear and much-loved Kogure-kun, so SD ties with Shadow Skill. I still cherish the fantasy of doing an AU of the SD boys in samurai-era Japan...Fujima-kun would do wonderfully as a young daimyo. Or something.

OK, I stop babbling now. You have BOXSET, and I have ENVY. Also, much delight at your find. Save money for excess baggage charges, unless you EMS it home!
