Uglified update.bml

I've been lurking around news/lj_design/lj_releases, hoping for any news that the userpic has been dragged back down to the bottom by sheer force of gravity, if nothing else. I even made a couple of comments saying that having the userpic at the top seriously disrupts my workflow (I tried to stop myself, honestly I did).

Then I realized that I didn't need to wait for the powers that be to change their minds; I could work on my own solution. So in between studying for my polsci long test and studying for my theo quiz, I tried my hand at modifying update.bml and I came up what has to be the world's ugliest update.bml page ever. And it only really works for me because I don't think that anyone else wants to lose their music and location fields, or to have their mood icon preview and userpic preview side by side.





But see, I don't care! AHAHAHA.

I have a list of tags! I can change my icon without having to scroll up! Everything that I need is right where I need it, and life is good.

I could move the music and location fields to the right instead of removing them entirely, but right now that's more trouble than it's worth, considering that I don't ever use them. For me, they're icing on the pudding -- that is to say, don't like, don't use, don't need.

Oh and I still feel guilty over the screenscraping involved in fetching those tags so still not making the (tag-related) code public until I've added even a tiny measure against overdoing that. Unless I don't need to. Gah! Help!

Nothing very good for the Mac XD Also, I always have Firefox open, so it's easier for me to load update.bml (my homepage :D), than it is for me to open a new application *g*

i use the Mac update clients too. it's easier for me. I also prefer using the clients because you can use the shortcut keys

Anything to recommend? The last time I checked, I was frustrated by the quality of the clients that I could find, but that was maybe half a year ago.

I use xjournal. I find it adequate for what i need. but I realised that it doesn't have a tags list. it has a field for you to enter the tags, but not a pull down list

(XD I love tags. I don't know why, but I do. I once went through a stage where I tried to go back through my old entries and make sure that everything was tagged. Gave up after a year's worth or so of entries, but I have tried to tag everything since then. Sometimes forgot to because of the lack of a tagslist in update.bml, but now that that's fixed I have no more excuse :D)

Aw. I'm assuming that you mean the tagslist? Or are you referring to the uglification as well?

Or do you mean both, but with the stuff repositioned according to the way you want them to be? :D

I can help you with those if you want. You'll need to install Greasemonkey. If you just want the tags, I'll probably eventually post that code to userscripts.org to share with everyone -- assuming that LJ has not yet implemented its own version by then!

Nice! I like the tag list! You have to teach me that.

Re: Mood icon and user icon... It would have been better if the previews were beside their respective drop down lists, imo.

Yeah, I know, but the userpic takes up too much vertical space kasi, and I was too lazy to shift everything to the right to accommodate the userpic on the left (or vice versa).

There's a reason that I call it the ugliest update.bml in the world *g*

It's done using Greasemonkey. I might eventually post it to userscripts.org once I'm done tinkering with it, and I'll make a post here when that happens *g*

Ok! I'd like to be able to use that. I got too comfy with the old update.bml. :p
