Migrating to Dreamwidth: plans

I've been thinking about this a bit, and I will be moving my main posting to DW, but continue lurking here to read my friends page. Ironically, I've started reading my friends page here more regularly, since I got my Dreamwidth account. Something about being so happy over there carries over to being more sociable over here, too.

I will continue archiving my Twitter entries on my LJ, but I will not be posting them to DW. I will also cross-post from DW to LJ, assuming I don't forget -- may be a slight lag between when I post there versus here, because I end up too lazy to open a second update window, but entries with substance length will make their way here eventually.

There will be a crossposter tool soon! Which will be awesome, and will make crossposting much easier, and give me no excuse not to post entries to here.

PS. feature for the day: Tags on Month page!

Implemented a couple of weeks ago, but got overlooked among all the other style system changse.

I'm going to get a DW account as soon as I can, but... like with Vox, I doubt I'll stay terribly active with it. I can barely keep up with my LJ Friends page as it is. =X But, yeah.

I like to compose my entries with Semagic... what would be nifty would be if they upgraded it to support Dreamwidth, too.

It mostly works (http://wiki.dwscoalition.org/notes/Compatible_clients). There are issues with Locations (and maybe Tags?) as well as custom friends groups.

I wasn't sure whether to respond to your screened comment or here, but will try from here. Dreamwidth is basically LJ, but better features, no ads (but a well-thought-out business plan), lots of cruft removed, and a great long list of new features already implemented, or planned to be. Then there are the tiny improvements -- easy to understand site navigation, which doesn't seem a big deal until you try it out and get used to being able to find stuff easily without needing to dig; improving the styles system (which is huge in terms of work involved), but the idea is to make it easy for users to customize their layouts without losing features when switching from one to the next; much longer comment and entry lengths (if you need it, say if you were in the mood to write a long fic *innocent face*)

One big thing that draws me in is its site philosophy, including its Diversity Statement

It's fandom-friendly, and I think that despite all the ridiculous complexity of copyright laws and TOS abuse and the like, the site owners are prepared to handle the complicated issues in a transparent, non-arbitrary manner.

And basically, basically... it's in many ways what I have wanted LJ to be, and constantly trying to improve on site experience (including having tools to crossspost to LJ and be able to keep track of my friends list here *G*)

1) Do you mean you can keep track of your LJ flist from your fpage on DW?

2) Can I export all of my past LJ posts to DW?

3) If the answer to the above is yes, do you have any more codes left?

1) By Open Beta, you will be able to keep track of your LJ flist's public posts on your reading page at DW, yes. They are working on locked posts; they believe they've identified a mechanism, but they still have to write it, and that probably won't be done by open beta.
